Meta Censors Olympic Shooter
Social media titan won’t show paralympic shooter her account or content to individuals not following her due to her sports content.
Meta, Facebook’s and Instagram’s parent company, shadow-banned Paralympic shooter McKenna Geer for her posts connected to shootings. Geer was born with amyoplasia arthrogryposis, a muscular disorder, and is slated to represent Team USA at the Paralympic Games in Paris in August.
Geer will be competing in the air-rifle event.
Earlier in July, Geer posted a photo on Instagram of the air rifle she competed with in order to qualify for the Paralympic Games. The company flagged the photo for allegedly violating its guidelines and notified her that non-followers wouldn’t have the ability to view her account or content in Instagram’s search tab, explore suggested users, or similar features. “Our Recommendations Guidelines help to promote content that fosters a safe community on Instagram,” Meta outlined in its explanation of why it shadow-banned Geer’s account.
“I have always feared the day the media would censor my sport and speech just because I use firearms,” Geer declared in a post published on Instagram on July 17. “That day has finally come.” At first, Meta prevented Geer’s from appealing the decision, and her account is still shadow-banned while her appeal is still being reviewed with just a month to go before the competition kicks off.
As the Wall Street Journal reported, Geer isn’t the first athlete to be censored. Meta recently censored Team USA shotgun competitor Conner Prince. On top of that, it “unpublished” the Facebook page of the West Point Rifle Team at the U.S. Military Academy. Per the platform’s explantation, it did so “because Army West Point Rifle goes against our Community Standards.”
Yet shooting has a storied tradition honored by communities across
Kelly Reisdorf, CEO of USA Shooting, expressed her concern with the social media company’s move: “By silencing an athlete’s voice, you infringe not only on their freedom of expression but subtly on their right to bear arms as well, as these platforms are critical for educating and sharing the legitimate and safe use of firearms in sport.”
Big Tech is hostile towards foundational American freedoms. They effectively act as the Pinkertons of the managerial regime. Basically, when the government can’t directly destroy free speech and/or the Second Amendment via legislation, it will use the private sector — Big Tech in this case – to implement its unholy agenda.
This is just another reason why Big Tech companies must be brought to heel through prudential state action.
Even the dumbest libtard has got to be sick of the obvious lies and hate and mind control. Not even a total fool can be oblivious to the propoganda anymore.
Everywhere you look all anyone can see is "Tragicomic Liberalism" on parade. Wake Up America....
What about the freedoms y'all took away from women? Not so worried about those are you. It's okay though. We can put a silencer on a gun and shoot somebody and it's Aokay, but lord help us if we want to decide when we are ready to have kids. It's the end of the world.
