U.S. Withdraws From 66 International Bodies in Major America First Sovereignty Move
White House targets U.N. bodies, climate compacts, and foreign NGOs accused of undermining American interests.
The Trump administration has formally withdrawn the United States from 66 international organizations, conventions, and treaties, marking one of the most sweeping sovereignty-driven realignments of U.S. foreign policy in decades.
According to a presidential memorandum released Tuesday, 31 of the entities are tied to the United Nations, while the remaining 35 operate outside the U.N. system.
The move reflects President Donald Trump’s renewed commitment to an America First foreign policy that prioritizes national sovereignty, taxpayer accountability, and domestic prosperity over globalist entanglements.
Rubio: Global Institutions No Longer Serve U.S. Interests
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the administration determined many of the targeted bodies were redundant, mismanaged, ideologically captured, or outright hostile to American interests.
“These institutions are often wasteful, poorly run, and increasingly dominated by progressive ideology detached from national sovereignty,” Rubio said in a statement. “It is no longer acceptable to send the blood, sweat, and treasure of the American people to organizations that undermine our freedoms and prosperity.”
Rubio added that the era of billions of taxpayer dollars flowing overseas with little accountability is over.
Review Ordered Under 2025 Executive Action
The withdrawals stem from a broader review ordered in February 2025, when President Trump directed the State Department to identify international organizations that “no longer serve American interests.”
That review concluded many of the bodies had become vehicles for DEI mandates, gender ideology, and climate activism, while actively constraining U.S. policy independence.
“These organizations are part of the same global NGO complex that advances a discredited ‘End of History’ worldview,” Rubio said, linking them to elite multilateral networks already being dismantled through cuts and closures, including the shuttering of parts of United States Agency for International Development.
U.N. Bodies and Climate Compacts Targeted
Among the U.N.-affiliated entities the U.S. exited are the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, the International Law Commission, the Peacebuilding Commission, the U.N. Democracy Fund, U.N. Energy, the U.N. Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, and U.N. University.
Non-U.N. organizations include the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact and the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, both long criticized by conservatives as vehicles for climate policy overreach.
The memorandum also cited more than two dozen so-called “hybrid threat” organizations, including technical and research bodies that the administration said blur the line between neutral cooperation and political activism.
Continuation of Trump’s U.N. Break
The decision follows Trump’s earlier withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council in February 2025.
At the time, Trump said the council had “failed to fulfill its purpose” and instead shielded some of the world’s worst human-rights violators. The White House specifically pointed to the inclusion of China and Iran, as well as what it described as persistent anti-Israel bias.
A Clear Signal Heading Into 2026
The latest withdrawals send a clear message: U.S. foreign policy under Trump will no longer subsidize institutions that erode American sovereignty or advance ideological agendas at odds with the national interest.
Administration officials say the move will free up resources to focus on domestic priorities while restoring clarity about who governs the United States — the American people, not unelected global bureaucrats.

Get the US out of the UN and get the UN out of the US.
I have for many years thought the UN which was supposed to truly help people not overreaching governments like China in particularly and many Islamic nations where terrorism for other faiths is rampant SHOULD BE DISBANDED. I also believe the World Health Organization should be another organization that the US should not give a dime to. In my mind they were just as bad as dr. Fauci and our own medical establishment in not responding correctly to the COVID 19 pandemic along with pharmaceutical companies that knew invermectin was effective as well as hyperbaric oxygen therapy for those with severe illness. Good job Mr President and your team!!
