Russian Government Denies Phone Call Between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump
Will the media try to drum up new Russiagate drama to further poison ties between the US and Russia ?
On November 10, 2024, the Washington Post reported that President-Elect Donald Trump had called on Russian Vladimir Putin to not escalate the war in Ukraine.
However, on November 11, the Russian government denied the Post’s report about Trump and Putin allegedly having a phone discussion.
Russian government Dmitry Peskov declared before journalists that the report was "simply false information.” The Post cited several people connected to the call who maintained a condition of anonymity. These sources claimed that Trump told Putin that the US has a considerable military presence in Europe.
They also claimed that Trump was interested in continuing additional discussions about "the resolution of Ukraine's war soon."
Steven Cheung, Trump's communications director, did not confirm the exchange, telling AFP in a written statement that "we do not comment on private calls between President Trump and other world leaders."
The outgoing Biden regime has confirmed that it will send as much aid as possible to Ukraine prior to Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025.
On November 10, Biden's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that the Biden regime aims "to put Ukraine in the strongest possible position on the battlefield so that it is ultimately in the strongest possible position at the negotiating table."
This would include using the remaining $6 billion of funds allocated towards Ukraine, Sullivan noted.
The Russian government has been cautiously optimistic about Trump’s return to office.
"The signals are positive... At least he's talking about peace, and not about confrontation," Peskov said on November 10.
Throughout the campaign trail, Trump has promised to end the war in Ukraine. There will be challenges due to the fact that the incoming Trump administration may be staffed with subversive neocon types in addition to Congress being filled with Russia hawks on both sides of the political aisle.
Also, the Russians will likely demand stronger concessions from Ukraine and the West in the form of explicit neutrality for Ukraine, complete halting of military aid to Ukraine, among other demands. This could potentially make a diplomatic settlement between the two countries impossible.
If Trump and co were smart, they would let the Ukrainians and Russians settle this conflict amongst themselves and have the US stay out of this conflict altogether.
