Russia Agrees to Facilitate Peace Talks Between the U.S. and Iran
Good news on the diplomatic front.
Russia has agreed to serve as a mediator to broker peace talks between the U.S. and Iran at a time of heightened tension in the Middle East.
According to a report in Bloomberg, President Trump discussed the idea with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week, and further discussions took place in Saudi Arabia where U.S. and Russian officials met in the upcoming days.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia is willing to help the U.S. and Iran have peace talks, stating “Russia believes that the United States and Iran should resolve all problems through negotiations” and that Russia “is ready to do everything in its power to achieve this.”
Publicly, the U.S. maintains its strong stance against Iran.
“President Trump made clear by renewing his ‘Maximum Pressure’ order just days into his second term, the United States will not tolerate Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon or their support of terror in the Middle East and around the world,” White House spokesman Brian Hughes said. “The Trump Administration will talk to our adversaries and allies alike, but he will always do so from a position of strength to defend our national security.”
Iran responded to the news with only a very vague proclamation.
“Given the significance of these matters, it’s possible that many parties will show goodwill and readiness to help with various problems,” said Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei.
Big League Politics has reported on how President Trump is trying to be manipulated into going to war with Iran by neoconservative war hawks who have lingered within the Republican Party:
"President Donald Trump is considering going to war with Iran, according to a report from Axios.
Israeli officials are pressuring Trump to back a major Israeli attack against Iran or to order a US strike against Iran’s supposed nuclear program. This idea is reportedly backed by the many war hawks Trump has appointed to his administration.
As Israel becomes more aggressive against its enemies in the Middle East, Trump continues to make it clear he is 100 percent in Israel’s corner.
“Well, I’m the best friend that Israel ever had. You look at what happened with all of the things that I’ve gotten, including Jerusalem being the capital, the embassy getting built,” Trump said to radio host Hugh Hewitt.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also confirmed that he is in the ear of Trump and believes that Trump is on his side in achieving his goals of complete victory.
“I unequivocally declare to Hezbollah and to Iran: In order to prevent you from attacking us, we will continue to take action against you as necessary, in every arena and at all times,” Netanyahu said.
“I discussed all of this last night with my friend, US President-elect Donald Trump. We had a very friendly, warm and important discussion. We discussed the need to complete Israel’s victory and we spoke at length about the efforts we are making to free our hostages,” the prime minister added."
Trump talking to Russia and Iran, instead of being isolated from those countries, is great news for peace as another war in the Middle East would be as bad as the disasters were in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc.
