Rep. Thomas Massie: 'American Taxpayers Should Not Be Funding' Israeli Civilian Strikes
Massie wants to put America first.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Congress’ leading critic of U.S. foreign policy, is calling for the U.S. to stop funding Israeli civilian strikes in places like Lebanon.
“If Israel insists on destroying civilian targets in Lebanon, let them buy and build their own weapons,” Massie wrote in a post on X. “American taxpayers should not be funding this.”
Massie stated these comments in response to a video of an apartment complex in Beirut being blown to bits in an area filled with apparent civilians.
According to Antiwar.com, the bomb dropped onto the Beirut apartment complex was likely the 2,000-pound MK-84, which is a bomb supplied to Israel from the U.S.
The MK-84 missile is guided by the SPICE system. The U.S. State Department sent $320 million of SPICE kits to Israel back in Oct. 2023.
“Israel has been using the kits during its bombing campaign in Gaza. According to the Gaza health ministry, which is part of the Hamas-run government in the enclave, the Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of about 10,000 Palestinians, 40 percent of whom are young children and teens,” the New York Times stated in a report about the SPICE kits.
“Israel has ordered more munitions from the United States alongside the equipment for guided bomb kits. Modern militaries generally add the guidance systems on their bombs with the goal of minimizing civilian casualties, although the damage can still be devastating, especially in urban areas,” the NYT added.
Rep. Massie has been outspoken in opposition to Israel’s influence over Washington D.C. Earlier this year, he revealed that virtually every Congressman has an American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) handler who controls their foreign policy stances.
"Everybody but me has an AIPAC person. It's like your babysitter, your AIPAC babysitter, who's always talking to you for AIPAC," Massie said during a podcast appearance with Tucker Carlson.
"When they come to DC, you have to go to lunch with them, and they've got your cell number and you have conversations with them," he continued.
"People think it's a grassroots movement in Kentucky. It's actually a top-down movement from AIPAC, so that people who aren't even Jewish will feel like they've got to support Israel no matter what,” Massie added.
Israel may be the “greatest ally” of the U.S., but it is time for the American Right to examine exactly what their nation gets out of this partnership other than more wars and less money.
Tom is stepping from solid ground into the deep quicksand of antizionism which is anathema to most Americans. Israel is a core American value with the only comparable being Britain. We aren't going to let Britain go down the tubes and we won't abandon Israel. Israel will defend itself against Iranian proxies in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen and Gaza and the US will have her back. Once Trump is in office we will solve the Iran problem directly.
