Pro-Liberty Conservative Wants to De-Wokify Florida Education
Gavin’s Rollins’s school board campaign aims to turn Lake County into an A school district
Gavin Rollins wants to shake things up in Lake County, Florida’s school district. Rollins is currently running for election to the Lake County School Board to represent the 4th district.
He has considerable military experience where he was deployed to the Horn of Africa as an Army Intelligence officer supporting counter-terrorism operations and defending United States Embassies.
Rollins previously served two terms as a county commissioner, where he fought for taxpayer savings and government innovations and making government more transparent and accessible to the general public. Rollins has been a long-time proponent of term limits, and does not want to create a class of career politicians who live off the taxpayer dime.
Rollins is a certified history teacher who possesses a master’s in Education Leadership, has multiple years of classroom experience. Throughout his teaching career, Rollins has taught American History, World History, and Civics. His educational background has prompted him to pursue a career in public service.
Drawing on his experience in the Army, Rollins wants to use his extensive training in safety and security to help secure Lake County schools and introduce new safety protocols that will keep these environments safe from individuals who intend to do harm.
In an interview with Big League Politics, Rollins blames the current education system for leaving many American youth “woefully unprepared” when it comes to the understanding of the foundation of the US and basic civic education. As a history teacher, Rollins believes that it is his duty to educate the youth on the republican virtues of our system of governance.
His run for the 4th district is motivated by his desire to make the school district the number one in the Sunshine State. Rollins plans to do so by recruiting the best and brightest teachers by teaming up with colleges to identify talent. More importantly, he wants to retain talented teachers and staff by implementing a robust recognition and incentives program.
Rollins is very aware of the “wokification” of the education system that has infected schools nationwide. For that reason, he has become a strong advocate for parental rights and stronger parental involvement in education. Ultimately, Rollins wants to keep CRT and other forms of leftist indoctrination out of the classroom.
Further, Rollins is against a one-size fits all education model and believes in school choice as an alternative to the present education paradigm. He plans on using his position on the school board to represent the interests of all families, regardless if they homeschool or enroll their children in private, public, or religious schools.
Rollins’ opponent, Mollie Cunningham, was described as a registered Republican, “but in the loosest sense possible.” As the incumbent members of Lake County School Board District 4, Cunningham has a history of receiving donations from unions such as the SEIU, teachers’ unions, and Democratic Party clubs. She also follows the likes of former President Barack Obama and other liberal figures such as New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
For his commitment to uphold parental rights in education and make Lake County’s school district number one in the state, Rollins has received key endorsements from Dan Robuck III, the former mayor of Leesburg, and the Florida Republican Liberty Caucus.
Rollins’ primary race will take place on August 20, 2024. Pro-liberty Lake County voters have a clear choice in this election, as they can vote for someone who will advance reforms that promote education freedom and enhanced parental rights in education.
