JD Vance Outlines Realist Foreign Policy at Michigan Rally
Are the days of neoconservatism in the Republican Party over?
On July 20, 2024, former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance gave a speech at Grand Rapids to outline their America First agenda. This speech came exactly one week after a deranged gunman made a failed assassination attempt against Trump on July 13, which still resulted in the killing of one man and the wounding of two other individuals.
In this speech, Vance put forward a realist, America First vision for foreign policy.
“There’s nothing radical about having a strong national security that when we go to the war, we punch and we punch hard, but being cautious, and not trying to get America involved in every far-flung corner and conflict of the world,” Vance declared. “Sometimes, my friends, it just is none of our business and we oughta stay out of it.” The crowd cheered.
This is a markedly different response from the neoconservative consensus of non-stop intervention and nation-building schemes abroad. While there are concerns that Vance and co could get the United States in a war with Iran, the vision he is laying out in his Michigan speech is a sign that the party is shifting towards a more restrained foreign policy direction.
In all honesty, the US needs to go back to a Monroe Doctrine style foreign policy that prioritizes security in the Western Hemisphere over getting involved in foreign conflicts abroad. With so many domestic problems kicking off and the southern border imploding, the last thing the US should be doing is to get involved in another foreign policy quagmire thousands of miles away.
Let’s walk softly, but continue
to carry the big stick.
I love how you're pretending that JD Vance the David Frum protégé isn't a neoconservative.
You're controlled opposition trash and I'm so pleased to see your website is down! 😂
