Michigan Liberty Conservative Wants to Flip a Work Class District
Chip Chipman is a champion of the working class
Liberty conservative Chip Chipman wants to move Michigan’s 87th State House district in a working class populist direction.
Chipman is a seasoned political activist. During his university years, he served as Campus Coordinator for Students for Liberty and was the founding President of the Young Americans for Liberty chapter in 2012.
After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2016, Chipman went to work on the National Staff of Young Americans for Liberty where picked up valuable communication and fundraising skills.
In June 2020, Chipman returned to his hometown of Muskegon to work at the Betten Baker Honda Dealership for two years prior to getting a position at Brunswick Bowling as a salesman.
On top of that, Chipman served in the Michigan National Guard
as an 11B Infantryman. Public service is very much embedded in Chipman’s DNA
Now, he wants to take that experience into the realm of holding public office. In correspondence with Big League Politics, Chipman noted that House District 87 is a Rust Belt district through and through. He highlighted that the district has been hollowed out by mass inflation and trade policies from DC.
On top of that, the Michigan state government’s draconian lockdown policies really did a number on the district which still hasn’t fully recovered from Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s interventions. Given his pro-liberty background, Chipman wants to implement free-market reforms that unleash the power of small-and medium-sized businesses while also keeping the government off of people’s backs.
To get this Rust Belt district back on its feet, Chipman believes that education reform is critical. He not only wants to re-invest in education but also promote school choice so that young citizens in the district pick up the necessary skills to thrive in the ever-changing job market.
Chipman is of the view that Donald Trump’s victory in 2016 has caused an electoral realignment that has made traditionally democratic districts now competitive for Republicans. He pointed out that Republicans can tap into White working class voters and black conservatives to build a victory coalition. Chipman is convinced that his platform and his experience as a political operative will put him over the top in Michigan’s 87th State House district.
Should he be elected, Chipman would be a solid pro-liberty addition to the Michigan Legislature.
His campaign will be watched with interest by Big League Politics as the November 5 election quickly approaches.
